Mary Jane (Noble) Washburn

FAIR HAVEN - Mary Jane (Noble) Washburn, 73, formerly of Benson, died April 22, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born Feb. 8, 1928, in Benson, daughter of Loren R. and Mabelle (Brown) Noble.
She attended schools in Benson and graduated from Rutland High School. She also graduated from Rutland Hospital School of Nursing in 1949.
She married John A. "Jack" Washburn on Aug. 26, 1950, in Benson. They resided on the family farm in Benson, moving to Fair Haven in 1986. He died January 2000.
Mrs. Washburn was employed as a registered nurse in the Rutland area and at Sager's Nursing Home in Fair Haven for several years.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC, of Fair Haven and served as a member of the Mission Board for several years. She was a 50-year member of the Fair Haven Chapter 70, Order of Eastern Star, having held the office of worthy matron. She was also past district deputy grand matron, past grand representative and past grand Martha.
She enjoyed doing her crafts and playing bridge.
Survivors include five daughters, Rebecca Guyett of Barre, Nancy Thomas of Bomoseen, Julie Craig of Hubbardton, Jill Washburn of Acworth, Ga., and Lauren FitzPatrick of Woodstock, Ga.; two sons, Mark Washburn of Benson and Gary Washburn of Bridport; two sisters, Bethia Munger of Middlebury and Judith Munger of Benson; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Susan Musgrove of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and a brother, Roger Noble of Benson.
The memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, UCC, in Fair Haven with the Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Benson at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call today from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. in Reed Chapel at the First Congregational Church.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Fair Haven Concerned, First Congregational Church of Fair Haven, the Eastern Star Home Fund, through the office of the Durfee Funeral Home, P.O. Box 86, Fair Haven, 05743.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven.
